2020 ACURA MDX: FEATURES, PERFORMANCE AND PRICING

There’s no shortage of three-row crossover SUVs to choose from, but even in this crowded market, the latest incarnation of Acura’s MDX stands out above the competition! Full of character, fun to drive, and offering quick and responsive handling, the MDX is an SUV that goes beyond the traditional Acura reputation for luxury and adds performance and utility to the mix.

Engine and Performance

The 2020 Acura MDX is available in two standard powertrain options. First, the basic 3.5L V6 direct injection engine pushes out a very respectable 290 horsepower and 267lb-ft of torque. The power is transferred through a nine-speed automatic transmission to the standard option of full-time all-wheel drive (AWD).

This translates into a vehicle that won’t lack performance under almost any conditions, even when towing the maximum load of 2268kg (5000lbs). However, fuel ratings are quite good for an SUV of this size and power. The gasoline model features an estimated fuel economy of 12.2L / 100km in the city and 9L / 100km on the highway.

The MDX is also available in a Sport Hybrid configuration, built around a 3.0L V6 gasoline engine with additional electric motors. This powertrain provides a total combined hybrid horsepower of 321, with combined hybrid torque of 289lb-ft.

The sport hybrid model features the same all-wheel drive, however, the transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch model. As you’d expect, the hybrid offers significantly better fuel economy figures for city driving at 9.1L / 100km, although highway driving figures are identical to the gas-model powertrain.

Luxury Interior

As part of the Acura lineup, it’s not surprising that the MDX has a wealth of standard interior comfort and convenience features. From power-adjustable heated seats to separate rear climate controls, it’s a car that puts comfort high on the list of priorities.

Heated leather steering wheel.
Power bucket seats with lumbar support.
Driver's foot rest.
Dual-zone front automatic air conditioning.
Cargo area with concealed storage.
Four USB charging ports.

What’s more, Acura’s Super Handling system continuously reads the speed, steering angle and yaw rate of each wheel independently, and distributes the power automatically to give the smoothest drive possible in all weather and road conditions.
This combination of power and control means the RDX performs with effortless agility in conditions ranging from crowded urban driving to the wide-open highway against the competition. Even with this strong performance, the RDX’s fuel economy is very respectable, with an estimated city rating of 11L / 100km and highway figures of 8.6L / 100km.

In-car Infotainment is provided via dual front LCD monitors, controlling the Acura Premium Audio System playing through eight speakers. Full Bluetooth connectivity with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SIRI Eyes Free compatibility is standard on all trim levels.

Safety Features

Ton of the great advantages of Acura SUVs is the feeling of everyday security they provide. The MDX is no exception, offering the following safety features as standard features:

Automatic braking system and driveline traction control.
Collision mitigation braking system.
Lane keeping assistance and departure warning.
Individual low pressure warnings for each tire.
A full range of driver, passenger and curtain airbags with occupancy sensors.
Anti-whiplash seat and headrest design.
